Warts are harmless growths which are small in size. They are the result of a viral infection caused by the Human Papilloma Virus family. There are nearly 60 different varieties of the Human Papilloma Virus. Each type prefers a particular part of the body.

seed warts, remove wartWarts normally occur on the skin or on the mucous membrane. Warts can spread from one part of the body to the other and from one person to the other.

As such warts are quite a common problem with children, young adults and women. Normally the virus enters the body through the skin or mucous membrane. Symptoms of warts do not occur for at least 1 to 8 months of infection.

The various types of warts are distinguished by the places on the body where they appear. They are:

  • Hand Warts: These grow on the fingers, around the nails and the backs of hands. Often they appear where the skin is broken.
  • Foot Warts or Plantar Warts: These appear on the balls of the feet, the heels and the bottoms of the toes.
  • Flat Warts: These can appear anywhere on the body. These are smaller, smoother and flatter compared to other warts. Also they appear in large numbers on the surface of the body.
  • Genital Warts: This is a form of a sexually transmitted disease and is passed on during sexual activity.

When the Human Papiloma Virus infection spreads and infects the person, certain symptoms begin to show up. The symptoms of warts include the appearance of small bumps on the surface of the skin, which if left untreated can spread some more, grow up to an inch in size and cause a lot of pain. Often these bumps appear in clumps or groups. The surface of the warts may also be scaly at times.

Wart Removal: Wart Cure and Wart Treatment

Wart removal is often quite a simple procedure. Therefore, one must show the warts to one’s doctor immediately after they are seen. If the warts remain untreated for a long time, then it becomes more complicated to treat them. There are also a variety of home remedies or alternative treatments for wart cure and wart removal.

Several wart treatment measures are over the counter treatments and medications. These over the counter treatments are usually in form of lotions or ointments. They help remove the skin where the warts have appeared. At the end of the treatment, the skin with the warts simply falls off, effecting a cure.

Alternative remedies include several products or treatments like plasters which cause the skin to become moist and even saturated with water. This causes the skin layer to peel off, taking the wart with it.

Another method of treatment is with the use of duct tape. The warts are kept loosely covered with duct tape for several weeks which causes the warts and the skin to come off.

There are a variety of home remedies or alternative treatment measures for wart cure. One of the most well known methods is the application of vitamin E to the skin surrounding the wart, and then crushing a clove of raw garlic and placing it on the wart. The area is then covered with an adhesive bandage. The garlic causes a blister to form and then the wart falls off within a week.

Another home remedy involves chopping a raw onion. Cover the chopped onion with salt and leave this dish covered overnight. A juice will form. The next day apply this juice on the warts. Do this twice a day till the warts disappear. Applying the juice of the stems of fig trees and leaves has also been known do the trick.

However, there are also other methods of wart treatment and wart cure which can be done by a doctor. One of them is cryosurgery. In this process, the tissue is frozen using liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen normally has a temperature of 330 Degrees Fahrenheit or 200 Degrees Celsius. Applying the liquid nitrogen to the affected skin causes the tissues to freeze. This helps the doctor to remove the frozen tissue which has been infected by the warts. The area then heals fairly quickly.

Another method used by the doctors is called electrocautery. In this process, an electric needle is used to burn off the wart. This ends up killing the tissue around the warts, thus helping the doctor to peel off the skin tissue along with the warts on it.

Laser surgery for wart removal also works on the same principle. The Laser beam aims at the area of the wart and the heat ends up killing the skin around the wart. The skin, along with the wart then simply falls off.

Genital warts and Foot Warts are comparatively more difficult to cure and heal. The reason is that they need specialized treatments and often the virus remains within the skin even if the wart falls off. Therefore the cure also includes chemical treatments for killing off the virus as well.

Wart Treatment: Wart Prevention

Prevention is the best cure. The only way to prevent warts is to maintain a good hygiene and a balanced diet. The vitamins A, C and E help make the immune system stronger. This can also help one to not get infected with warts.

What are Common Warts?

Common warts are unhealthy/unnatural local growths of skin or mucous membrane infection caused by a virus known as Human PapillomaVirus (HPV). The infected part of the skin becomes dead and tough (just like blister); forming clusters of small painless lumps.

hpv treatments, finger wartsThere are more than a hundred types/strains of HPVs that are involved in various types of warts/infections in human beings, among them common warts (skin warts) and genital warts are common in people across the world. Few spread infection on the outer surface of the skin, this infection is also known as common skin warts. Some strains of HPV are known for their role played in increasing cancer risk in human beings.

What are the common causes of HPV infections?
Most of the HPV infections are non-contagious and only infects a healthy human when he/she comes in contact with anything that has HPV on its surface (such as used towel, handkerchief, sleeper or shoe etc.) or touches infected area of the skin of person who is carrying the virus.

As already mentioned above, there are more than a hundred types of warts recognized out of which the following types of warts are common:
1) Common Warts (skin infection, common on hands, knees and leg skin)
2) Mosaic Warts
3) Flat Warts
4) Foot Warts
5) Genital Warts (one of the most commonly known sexually transmitted diseases)
6) Plantar Warts
7) Digitate Warts (also known as filiform warts) etc.

How common warts are treated?
From ancient times, the common warts are treated in many ways. Prior to discovery of modern medicine and medical techniques, common warts were treated by home-made remedies. Home made remedies for warts treatment use acidic nature of its ingredients to get rid of the warts.

Now a day many medicines and lotions are used in warts treatments that contain salicylic acid (salicylic acid is known for its ability to dissolve protein (keratin) that is one of the main building blocks of HPVs and skin warts).

Along with the above mentioned treatments, your doctor may also prescribe any of following treatments:
Keratolysis: As mentioned above, use of acids/chemical compounds that are known for their property of dissolving keratin which is a main building block of HPVs and the warts, is one of the commonly used techniques to treat common warts.
Laser Treatment: With advent of new techniques and use of laser in removal of benign tumors and tissue level surgeries, laser surgery also has become one of the several options for the treatment of warts.
Surgery: Removal of the warts using surgery can also be used as one of the options.
Cryosurgery: In this type of treatment, the warts are frozen using agent such as liquid nitrogen after which the warts and area on which the agent is applied becomes dead and falls off.
Herbal Treatment: Few herbal medicines are considered to work effectively on the warts. Based on the state and condition your warts are in, your doctor may suggest you to take help of herbal medicine treatment.

Along with the above mentioned treatments, your doctor may also prefer certain other techniques in order to treat warts.

Complications involved with common warts:
As mentioned already, warts are considered to play key role in spread and development of some types of cancers in humans. If warts are left untreated, they can lead to cancer. Some of the HPV strains which cause common skin warts and genital warts are considered to lead to head, neck, skin and genital/cervical cancers and hence are considered to be High Risk strains of HPV. Similarly, few strains of HPV lead to development of benign lumps and lesions.

Prevention:
As mentioned above, warts are not contagious and do not spread through air or respiration. However, they spread only when a healthy person touches infected skin or warts of a person suffering from warts. You may also develop warts if you touch anything that has HPVs on its surface. Maintain hygiene and do not touch wounds/warts of a person who’s infected with HPV and also objects used by an infected person such as towel, handkerchief etc.

Although common warts can appear anywhere in the body but they are usually located on the face, arms and legs. Common warts are painless, save and except those that grow under the nails or appear at places where constant pressure or friction is present.

foot warts, genital warts maleThere are several forms of warts that affect the human body that are discussed below.

Common warts are rough dome shaped greyish skin growths that are found mostly on a hand of a person. However, they may appear on other parts of the body as well.

Plantar warts grow on feet, particularly the soles, so any form of walking with the plantar wart is likely to be painful. They usually appear as hard heavy patches of skin with dark specks.

Flat warts are flat topped, pinkish growths that appear mostly on the legs, arms and the face. Flat warts are no bigger than ordinary pencil erasers.

Filiform warts in appearance are flesh colored and they have projections much like a finger. They are commonly seen in the beard area, on the nose and the mouth region.

Rough circular lesions or bumps on the soles of feet are indications of plantar warts. These are pressure sensitive and walking with Plantar wart is indeed painful.
Spike-like growth under toenails or fingernails is a sure indication of Periungual wart.

As most of the warts disappear as mysteriously as they appeared first, no specific treatment has been mooted or the warts (excepting genital warts). But even then, if neglected, they can assume bigger proportions, and so it is always better to treat them. From a cosmetic point of view, the following remedial meaures are fairly popular.

Treatment at home with of non-prescription salycylic acid or pressure bandaging.
Cryotherapy or freezing the warts with liquid nitrogen.
Electrosurgery, curettage or laser surgery to remove the warts.

Do Not Ignore Signs Of Early Genital Warts

January 21st, 2009

There is one thing that my friend and I would rather not talk about in public; Early Genital Warts. This condition is very real, so real that over 80% of the adult population in the world has been affected by it in one way or another. Just because you avoid Early Genital Warts, it doesn’t mean that it will go away. One thing is for sure; if you ignore early genital warts signs you could be doing an injustice to yourself and your partner. Some signs of genital warts actually manifest themselves in a peculiar way, you may never recognize them in time, but if there are early genital warts signs these should not go unheeded.

genital wart pictures, gental wartsThe advice of a physician should be sought as soon as possible; this is what my friend did. He did not take chances and I thank him for that even today. Genital warts infection is also referred to as HPV; this means Human Papilloma Virus for those who need to be specific. I used to believe that this virus is a form of herpes but later I came to realize that this is not true. Genital Warts infection and herpes are two separate infections, but both are definitely sexually transmitted diseases or STDs in short.

Early Genital warts are considered very contagious since they affect the moist tissues and are spread by direct skin to skin contact with an infected person. Contraction of the genital warts mostly happens during sexual intercourse that involves, the mouth, the anus, the penis and of course the vagina. Be warned though, that a person will also re-infect themselves on other parts of their body when they don’t remember to wash off their hands after coming into contact with the warts. The best thing to do is not to keep quiet about the early signs of genital warts. As much as one would feel so embarrassed to open up to their doctor about the problem, just take a step of courage and you could be saving yourself from further damage of a precious part of your body.

Human Papilloma virus, also known as HPV which is linked to cervical cancer could get an opportunity to present itself if early Genital warts are left untreated. However since early genital warts may cause no symptoms to some people it increasingly becomes difficult for them to seek fast treatment There are some other signs that can be translated as early genital warts symptoms all the same. This could be, Bleeding during intercourse, a burning sensation or itching in the genital area, small red or pink flesh swellings which take the shape of a cauliflower, among others. If you suffer from any of the above, chances are, you could be having the HPV virus, and need to seek assistance so as to start treatment immediately.

Because of its highly contagious nature, sexual partners need not be left out since they too could be suffering in silence while they could be looking for medical attention to determine if they have genital Human Papilloma virus. Having sexual relations with a partner who is infected with HPV does not necessarily mean that you will display early genital warts signs or symptoms immediately. Possibly, due to changes in the immune system for each individual, this can even be anything between 3weeks to a few years. Owing to this factor, it therefore becomes pretty difficult to know, How, When and from whom you contracted the disease from.

Take note, for those who have multiple sexual partners, chances of them displaying early genital warts symptoms are quite high and almost immediate. Don’t forget this also depends a lot on the condition of your health at the time you contracted the virus and also what type of HPV it is that you get.

The Different Types of Warts

Different Types Of Warts

Warts are of various types and are usually caused by the HPV virus, hence are contagious.

A viral infection causes the warts that occur commonly on the skin. A virus from the human papillomavirus, or HPV virus, family is the culprit, which can spread by either coming in contact with a person infected by it or with a contaminated surface. A wart is a horny lump of skin that can occur practically on any part of the body, which includes the genitals, but usually is more common on the hands and feet. There are more than sixty types of warts and they are usually characterized by oozing, itching, and burning. Verruca vulgaris, or common warts, plantar warts, genital warts, and flat warts are just some of the various types of warts.

While warts usually go away without any treatment, however, they may also persist for a long time, sometimes even years, if left untreated. Although warts are usually contagious, some people seem to be more susceptible to them and some types of virus seem to be more contagious than others, e.g. genital warts.

Given below are some of the most common types of warts:

Common Wart
Also known as verruca vulgaris, these generally occur in the hands, fingers and knees. It is a raised wart with a surface that feels rough. While they can occur at any age, but they are usually seen in children.

Flat Wart
As is evident by the name, this wart is distinguished by it flattened and smooth surface. Usually occurring on knees, hands, neck, and face, the flat wart can be light or dark in color.

Plantar Wart
This wart occurs on the soles of the feet, and hence is especially painful. Occurring in variable sizes, this wart can be as small as a pinhead or as big as a quarter. On examining it closely tiny red, brown, or black spots will be seen inside it, which are actually blood vessels. Because the HPV virus causes it, removing it does not guarantee it not recurring again. Since the plantar wart is contagious, you can get it merely by walking barefoot outside.

picture of genital warts, genetal wartGenital Wart
This wart, as the name indicates, occurs in the genital area, hence it is also known as vaginal wart, venereal wart, and if it occurs in the anal region, anal wart. Since they can be transferred sexually, these warts are more serious. Like the plantar wart, the genital wart is also caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. Since it can be spread by sexual contact, it is listed as a ’sexually transmitted disease’, and it can also lead to cervical cancer in women.

Mosaic Wart
This wart grows on the soles of the feet too, but can be differentiated from the plantar wart because it grows in clusters. It can also occur on the hands.

Filiform Wart
This wart occurs mainly on the face, around the eyelids and lips. It resembles a miniscule sized finger.

Since warts are usually spread by the HPV virus, one of the best ways to prevent them from occurring or coming back after they go away or are removed, is strengthening the immune system.
